Campaign Directions: with Steven Joyce, campaign director

Well another week has come and gone and we are another week closer to a triumphant National Party victory. It will be a great day in September when we stand hand-in-hand with three other people to create the most vibrant coalition this country has ever seen.

So when I get people ringing me asking me to comment on a book. I’m not commenting. None of it is true. None of the stolen emails are true. I hardly wrote any of them.

There has been a lot of talk today about the Nicky Hager book. This is, of course, ridiculous. It’s not a book. It’s a hat-stand. Everybody knows that everything Hager writes is horrible. Hager the horrible.

And anyway, even though it’s not true, none of what he has written is any great surprise to the rest of us who live in the real world with ordinary normal millionaires.

Every single party in government leaks to the media. You ask anybody around here. Labour do it. The Greens do it. Everyone does it.

Every single party in parliament has their own blogger they release information to. Labour and the Greens have their bloggers. We have ours. We release our information to our blogger. Our information is important. Sometimes that information comes from illegally hacked computers, but Labour also hack their own computers. I bet you every single day Cunliffe gets into the Labour computer to find some kind of information.

Everybody is doing it. It’s completely normal.

Every single party in parliament has complete access to all the secret SIS information. Labour does. The Greens do. Everybody does. All the parties release this information to their bloggers. It’s completely normal to find material of a national security nature floating around the corridors of parliament just asking to be handed over to a blogger. Everybody does it. Labour does it. The Greens do it.

Everybody does it. It’s completely normal.

So when people come up to me and accuse me of being involved in a massive conspiracy with one of the most controversial bloggers in New Zealand I say to them: It’s not true. And it’s completely normal. Everybody’s doing it. The Greens and Labour have been involved in their own smear conspiracy for years. They are totally talking about people behind their backs and planning on taking them down. Sometimes they probably really want to kill people but the can’t because of stupid laws, red tape and constrictive legislation.

Everybody does it. It’s totally normal.

See you next time.

Steve
