Wow. that’s crazy. I wish I could say that Americans are more enlightened and would not vote that way, but I’m just not sure. Spanking and hitting my kids is not part of my parenting toolbox. That doesn’t mean I’ve never done it, but I’ve never done it and felt like it was the right way for me to behave. It has happened when i lost my temper (which doesn’t happen that often these days), usually when one of the kids hurts the other.

it does seem to me, in MY case anyway, that spanking or any rough handling of my children breaks something in our relationship. and then that has to be repaired somehow, making whatever was the cause of the physical violence forgotten. So it just doesn’t seem to work.

Yes – I am another example of ‘let’s blame Bush’ – mainly because it’s all his fault. Well, not really since he was a puppet president. Who spent the money? Yes, the people of New Orleans. Who built the levees? The US Army (a federal entity I believe – which, by law, cannot be sued for anything). My point was, and I think you’ve missed it here a little bit because of your passionate love of all things Republican, that the administration did not respond as they should have following the disaster. The reason: money.
I do have emotionally driven hatred for Bush. It’s because he was so appalling. Not only for people across the United States but also for what he has done to the world view of your country.

You are another example of “lets blame Bush” regardless.
When one understands how states have to invite the feds in for help (that is the law) before any deployment of federal assistance can be allotted then maybe you can complain.
This particular criticism had irked me since it was fueled by idiots. It was the mayor and the governor who where to blame for the debacle. I wouldn’t trust Mr. Lee, another M. Moore.
Who spent the money that was supposed to fix the levees?
I am quite capable of finding criticism with the Bush administration. Mine are based on truth and fact, not some emotionally driven hatred for anything on the right or the left.

Actually we were crap in the 1980’s too. They talk that era up, but really it’s nothing to remember fondly. NZ cricket has always been a joke, f-ck knows how they keep public interest up.

But it’s not a free market! The market is run by the insurance companies for profit and 47 million Americans DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. Because they can’t afford it – they have been priced out of your so wonderful free market.
I’m sure you will agree with me (and when I say sure, I mean you won’t) that an unfetted, totally free market fails utterly. On paper it looks really good but as soon as you add people into the mix, greed takes a hold and voila! AIG or GM needs delicious bailout money.
You’re telling me the free market will provide? It never, ever will.
You sir, are a fool!
And to prove my point, the WHO has ranked the US at 37 on the list of the world, behind the likes of Andorra, Malta, Morocco and your drug producing neighbours Columbia. Mind you, you are ahead of New Zealand, so what do I know.

As a bit of a post script – for me it’s about tollerance, or lack thereof.
Too many people in this world spend far too much time worrying about other people ‘doing the wrong thing’ and too little time doing the right thing themselves.

Can’t we all just get along? Without having to be the same homogenous group. After all, we’re all individuals. We all look different. Why can’t we think differently?
